Press Release
Giant Order to the National Archives in Denmark includes Schoeller Plast
At a total value of DKK 1.4 billion the construction of a new National Archive in Copenhagen has become the largest joint project between national and private companies in the history of Denmark, and all the approx. 270.000 specially designed archive crates in plastic have been produced by the company Schoeller-Plast-Enterprise A/S near Holbaek.
Denmark's new National Archives are in all respects a gigant project. Apart from being the largest PPC project (cooperation between national and private companies) so far, the new buildings at Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen contain no less than 370 kilometres with shelves, of which 315 km are divided on mobile pallet racks in four separate high-bay storehouses.
However, to begin with "only" about half of the many specially designed plastic archive crates have been filled with the National Archives' archive boxes. The crates are designed and delivered by one of Denmark's most experienced plastic crate manufacturers, Schoeller-Plast-Enterprise A/S in Holbaek.
This company stands behind all the beer crates to for example Carlsberg and Tuborg, bread crates to Kohberg and Schulstad and numerous others within the food industry and they have with this order to the National Archives really gained a competitive profile outside its long-standing traditional market for bottle crates and standard material handling crates.
- Our production facilities are optimized for plastic crates with special stiffness and strength, and in connection with the order to the National Archives we have also invested € 200,000 in automation of the plant, the commercial director Nicholas Schoeller says.
The order comes from Thanex A/S in Koege, who are one of the leading providers of archive and storage solutions in Denmark.
- This is the most comprehensive shelving system in the history of Denmark, and beyond specific requirements for the strength and characteristics of the plastic crate it was essential to us that Schoeller Plast have their production in Denmark, CEO Peter Vestergaard Andersen, Thanex A/S declares.
Just-in-time delivery
The total order of about 270,000 sliding crates were produced at Schoeller Plast in Holbaek over a period of 10 months with just-in-time delivery to Thanex, who simultaneously built and equipped the two new high-bay storehouses.
- Furthermore the crates from Schoeller Plast are distinguished by the creativity of the company regarding the combination of the strength characteristics and the design, Peter Vestergaard Andersen from Thanex A/S says. Thanex were another subcontractor of all the shelves in this high-bay storehouse to the building consortium behind the Danish National Archives that was led by Pihl & Son.
